Removal
of the old stock:
Removing
your action from your old stock and installing it in your new Golden
Accuracy stock is an easy task.
First,
check to see that all cartridges are removed from the gun.
- On the
floor metal remove the front and back screws while holding both the
action and stock. Winchesters will have a 3rd screw under the floor
metal in the middle that must also be removed. (We find that your
free hand not working the screwdriver and your lap are excellent tools
for this.)
- When
the screws are removed, carefully flip the gun back to right side
up and lift the action and barrel straight up, out of the old stock.
Set it aside, in a safe place. Remove the floor metal and metal cartridge
magazine box as well. Take note as to what side is up for the cartridge
magazine box. These pieces will go back into your new Golden Accuracy
stock the same way they came out. (Sometimes the cartridge liner will
lift out with the action or fall out after the floor metal is removed.)
Installing
your new Golden Accuracy stock:
If you
do not have a gun bench to rest the stock while reinstalling the barreled
action, an easy assembly approach is as follows.
- Take
your new Golden Accuracy stock in hand and point it vertically and
rest the recoil pad on your leg(s) or knee(s).
- With
your other hand, insert the barreled action into the new stock (with
the cartridge magazine box slid onto the bottom of the action in the
orientation it came out).
- Firmly
squeeze hold the barreled action and stock together ensuring it seats
completely into the new stock. Fit the floor metal/trigger guard assembly
back into the bottom of the new stock as it was in the old stock.
- Install
the forward and rear screws and snug them lightly and evenly. (Winchester
people must install the trigger guard and center screw before this
step. This screw should be barely snug, no more.)
- At
this point, examine the gun to ensure proper operation of all parts:
o Check the opening and closing of the bolt, floor metal, and alignment
of the barrel. These can be indicators of an improper fit.
- Finally
torque down the front action screw first, followed by the rear action
screw. Torque each screw to 72 in-lbs if a torque wrench is available.
Now you
are ready to observe the benefits of the finest wooden stock available
today. Thank you.
